The roadshow was a 2.5-kilometer-long procession, attracting a large crowd of supporters. The BJP expects around 2 lakh attendees, aiming to influence 9 seats in the final phase of the polls. The Prime Minister’s schedule included public meetings in Ashoknagar and Jadavpur, and he also paid tributes to Subhas Chandra Bose.

Accompanying the Prime Minister were two key figures from the BJP – State BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Suvendu Adhikari. Majumdar has been a vocal critic of the Mamata Banerjee government and has recently been in the news for his allegations against the state police. Adhikari, on the other hand, is a significant figure in the BJP’s West Bengal unit and has been actively campaigning for the party.

Traffic Advisory and Security Measures

In view of the roadshow, the Kolkata Police issued a traffic advisory to ensure smooth commuting. The movement of all types of goods vehicles was restricted in some places in Kolkata between specific hours. The advisory also stated that vehicle parking would be regulated or restricted during these hours.

Political Implications

The roadshow is seen as a significant show of strength by the BJP, which is looking to make substantial inroads in West Bengal. The presence of Majumdar and Adhikari alongside the Prime Minister signals the party’s intent to present a united front in the state.
