Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially launched the Shinkhun La Tunnel Project with a virtual blast ceremony, marking the start of a groundbreaking infrastructure endeavor aimed at revolutionizing connectivity in Ladakh. This pivotal project will see the construction of a 4.1 km long Twin-Tube tunnel situated at an impressive altitude of about 15,800 feet on the Nimu – Padum – Darcha Road.
The Shinkhun La Tunnel is set to be the highest tunnel in the world upon completion, representing a significant engineering achievement and a key component in enhancing year-round connectivity to the remote region of Leh. The tunnel is anticipated to provide a crucial link through harsh climatic conditions, ensuring uninterrupted movement of both civilians and military personnel.
In his address during the virtual event, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the strategic and developmental benefits of the tunnel. “The Shinkhun La Tunnel will not only facilitate the efficient movement of our armed forces and equipment but also stimulate economic growth and social development in Ladakh,” Modi stated.
