Bengaluru: BJP Leader Ashwath Narayan Slams BBMP Over Illegal Solid Waste Management Fee

Date:

Karnataka BJP leader Dr. C.N. Ashwath Narayan has strongly criticized the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for levying a new Solid Waste Management (SWM) user fee, in addition to the existing SWM cess.

Speaking to reporters, Ashwath Narayan said, “This fee is being imposed through an illegal order that violates BBMP’s own by-laws. We condemn this and urge BBMP to immediately withdraw the new fee.”

He alleged that despite BBMP’s plan to collect an additional ₹3,000 crore through this user fee, the streets of Bengaluru remain filthy, reflecting poor waste management.

“People are being burdened unnecessarily, while the city’s condition shows no improvement,” he added.

The BJP leader’s remarks come amid growing discontent among citizens over municipal charges and the state of sanitation services in the city. The opposition has demanded greater transparency and accountability in BBMP’s functioning, warning that arbitrary charges without clear service delivery will not be tolerated.
