Bengaluru — Karnataka Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council and BJP leader Chalavadi Narayanaswamy on Thursday visited rain-affected areas in Bengaluru, expressing sharp criticism over the Congress-led state government’s handling of the situation.
Speaking to the media during his inspection, Narayanaswamy questioned the Congress government’s celebration of its two-year term amidst severe public distress caused by torrential rainfall. “What is the celebration for? There has been no development at all in the last two years,” he said, lashing out at Deputy CM DK Shivakumar’s recent remarks on the city’s infrastructure crisis.
“DK Shivakumar says even if God comes, Bengaluru can’t be saved. Five people have died during this rainfall. What is this? The public is upset,” Narayanaswamy said, pointing to widespread flooding, property damage, and inadequate emergency response.
He added that rainwater had entered homes and localities across the city, yet the administration seemed indifferent. “This is the condition of the Congress party. When Rome caught fire, its king was sitting with a violin,” he remarked, drawing a comparison to emphasize perceived government apathy.
The BJP leader’s comments reflect growing frustration among residents, especially in low-lying areas, over recurring urban flooding and stalled infrastructure reforms in Bengaluru. Opposition leaders are now demanding immediate relief measures and long-term drainage and infrastructure planning.
