PM Modi Highlights GST 2.0 Reforms at World Food India 2025

Date:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the World Food India 2025 summit at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, underscored the transformative impact of the next-generation GST reforms on India’s food and agriculture ecosystem. The Prime Minister explained how the restructured tax framework is directly benefitting farmers, producers, and consumers, while strengthening the country’s commitment to sustainability and organic growth.

PM Modi highlighted that under the new GST structure, lower taxes on essential food-related products—including butter, ghee, milk, processed foods, bio-pesticides, and biodegradable packaging materials—are driving down production costs and consumer prices. These reforms, he said, not only ensure better prices for farmers but also encourage producers to invest in organic farming, sustainable agriculture, and eco-friendly packaging solutions.

The Prime Minister noted that India’s food sector is at the forefront of innovation, and the GST reforms will help unlock greater market access for small farmers and rural entrepreneurs. By reducing tax burdens on critical inputs, the government aims to strengthen the farm-to-fork supply chain, enhance food security, and provide affordable, nutritious products to millions of households.

Calling the GST reforms a “win-win” for all stakeholders, PM Modi said the measures would accelerate India’s progress toward becoming a global food processing hub, boosting exports and generating employment while promoting healthier diets and environmental responsibility.
