UP announces 1,247.5 crore for MLA-led development projects

Date:

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has released ₹1,247.5 crore under the MLA Local Area Development Fund (MLALAD) for the financial year, marking a significant push towards constituency-level infrastructure and development works across the state.

The announcement was made by the state administration, confirming that the funds have been allocated under the Vidhan Mandal Kshetra Vikas Nidhi (MLA LAD scheme), which allows legislators to recommend development projects in their respective constituencies.

Officials said the released amount will be used for local infrastructure development, public utility projects, and essential civic works, aimed at addressing region-specific needs and improving grassroots facilities.

The scheme is designed to ensure balanced regional development across Uttar Pradesh, enabling MLAs to identify and prioritise projects such as roads, drainage systems, schools, health facilities, and community infrastructure based on local requirements.

Under the programme, funds are transferred to district-level authorities, which are responsible for executing and monitoring the sanctioned development works in coordination with elected representatives.

The government has emphasised that the initiative is part of its broader strategy to strengthen rural and urban infrastructure simultaneously, while ensuring faster implementation of small and medium-scale development projects.

Officials further noted that strict guidelines are in place to ensure transparent utilisation of funds and timely completion of works, with district administrations tasked to oversee compliance and quality control.

The MLALAD scheme has long been considered an important tool for decentralised development planning, giving elected representatives the ability to directly address local issues and infrastructure gaps within their constituencies.

With the latest allocation, the state aims to accelerate ongoing development projects and improve public amenities at the grassroots level across Uttar Pradesh.
