India-Myanmar Relations Set for Boost as Modi Holds Talks with President Hlaing

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing will meet in New Delhi today for official talks.. The talks will focus on further strengthening the historical and civilisational ties between the two countries.

The talks will cover all aspects of relations between Myanmar and India, including security and connectivity. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met the visiting Indian President in New Delhi yesterday evening. President U Min Aung Hlaing also addressed the Myanmar-India Business Forum.

The President of Myanmar arrived in Gaya, Bihar, on Saturday on a five-day visit to India. He is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including several cabinet ministers, senior officials, and business leaders. This is his first visit to India in his current position. The President will also travel to Mumbai tomorrow for business and industry-related talks and site visits.

The Myanmar President will meet President Draupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan this evening. He will also visit the exhibition “Light and Lotus: Relics of the Awakened One” being held at the Rai Pithora Cultural Complex in the capital.

The exhibition showcases the revered Piprahwa Relics, as well as important antiquities related to Gautama Buddha. Myanmar lies at the confluence of India’s “Neighborhood First,” “Act East,” and “Ocean” policies. President U Min Aung Hlaing’s visit to India is expected to further strengthen the multifaceted relations between the two countries.
