₹52,000 crore defence procurement approved to enhance multi-domain combat readiness

Date:

On July 3, 2026, the Defence Acquisition Council, chaired by Rajnath Singh, approved procurement proposals worth approximately ₹52,000 crore. For the Indian Army, these include anti-drone electronic warfare systems (Akash Tarang), MPATGM missiles, MRSAM, V-SHORADS, active tank protection systems, and jet-based kamikaze drones.

Akash Tarang will provide anti-UAV protection to Army units. The MPATGM will enhance the infantry’s capability to counter enemy mechanized threats. The MRSAM system provides medium-range air defense against a variety of stand-off aerial threats.

V-SHORADS, featuring multi-spectral sensing, will enhance the Indian Army’s retaliatory capabilities and operational effectiveness. The active protection system will improve tank defense mechanisms and boost survivability. Jet-based kamikaze drones offer superior electronic warfare capabilities and increased lethality and safety, while also being cost-effective.

The Indian Navy has been granted approval to procure ‘Multi-Influence Ground Mines’ (MIGM) to halt enemy movement, acquire ‘Naval Shipborne Unmanned Aerial Systems’ (NSUAS) to enhance surveillance, and establish a ‘Land-Based Testing Facility’ (LBTF) for testing electric propulsion systems.

Approval has been granted for the procurement of Fixed-Wing High Altitude Pseudo-Satellites (FW-HAPS) and other systems for the Indian Air Force. The FW-HAPS will facilitate continuous Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) operations, telecommunications, and remote sensing for the Indian Air Force. (PIB)
