PM Modi Calls for Technology-Led Solutions to Cyber Fraud, Greater Cooperation on 6G and AI

On October 6, ahead of the ‘India Mobile Congress’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with members of the ‘Global System for Mobile Communications Association’ (GSMA) board at Seva Teerth and called for making technology more affordable, accessible, and inclusive, especially for the Global South.

Prime Minister stressed that technology should drive inclusive and sustainable development by making digital services affordable, accessible and available to the last mile, especially across the Global South. He also highlighted Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) as a key enabler for developing countries, saying it can help bridge the digital divide and accelerate growth.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need for technology-based solutions to tackle the growing challenge of digital and cyber fraud. This includes conducting continuous awareness campaigns to alert users about fraudulent calls. Regarding new technologies, he called for global standards and common rules for emerging technologies and proposed ways to help users quickly verify the origin of deepfakes and AI-generated content.

GSMA board members commended the rapid expansion of 4G and 5G connectivity, digital public infrastructure, and mobile manufacturing in India. They also highlighted opportunities for enhanced international cooperation with India in areas such as 5G, 6G, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital inclusion, and satellite connectivity.

Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister of State for Communications Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, GSMA board members, and senior government officials participated in this meeting.
