Karnataka BJP Leader Arvind Bellad Proposes Constitution Club for MLAs, Questions State Development

Date:

Karnataka Deputy Leader of Opposition and BJP leader Arvind Bellad has pushed for the establishment of a Constitution Club for state MLAs, similar to the one in Delhi. He emphasized the need for a dedicated space where legislators can meet constituents, discuss policy matters, and interact with subject experts.

“The Constitution Club is on the lines of the one in Delhi. MLAs don’t have an office to meet people or assemble to discuss issues concerning society. There is no place where we can call subject experts and discuss or meet people from our constituency. A place was required, and that is why this proposal was presented in front of the government,” Bellad stated.

The proposal was raised during an assembly session by a ruling party member, prompting Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to forward it to the finance department for review. However, Bellad also expressed concerns about Karnataka’s lack of development over the past 19 months, questioning whether such an expense is justified at this time.

“I agree that there is absolutely no development in the state. In the last 19 months, we have not received a single pie for development. Under these circumstances, this kind of expense can be put aside. Those expenses should be made which are the most required,” he added.

Bellad’s remarks have sparked discussions on government spending priorities, with opposition leaders accusing the ruling party of neglecting development. The state government’s response to the proposal and the financial feasibility of the Constitution Club remain to be seen.
