Moving Toward Greater Accountability: UP Govt Plans Centralised CCTV Dashboard for All Police Stations

Date:

A major step has been taken to improve security in Uttar Pradesh and provide modern technology to the police. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to connect all police stations in the state with CCTV cameras and create a central control system. Top officials can monitor real-time operations across all stations using a single digital dashboard. Monitoring police operations will bring transparency to police work. Monitoring police station activities will strengthen the administrative system.

During a review of the state’s police technology, authorities decided to build a system where senior officials can watch live CCTV footage from police stations across Uttar Pradesh. This will help them step in quickly during emergencies, oversee daily work better, and keep the police force more responsible.

According to government officials, the integrated monitoring system will cover all sensitive areas inside police stations, including lock-ups, interrogation rooms, reception areas, corridors, and entry and exit points. Authorities believe the system will help improve operational discipline, preserve crucial evidence, and reduce the possibility of misconduct within police premises.

The chief minister also emphasised the need to strengthen communication infrastructure across the police department. During the review, officials informed him that the department had procured 275 flat-base masts, 5,322 batteries, and 120 backpack communication sets during the previous financial year. Several supporting accessories, including antennas, chargers, and cables, were also purchased to improve communication capabilities across districts.

As part of the police modernisation programme, the government additionally installed 50 public address systems to strengthen emergency communication and crowd management systems in key locations.

Officials further informed the chief minister that the use of a reverse auction mechanism in procuring communication equipment helped the state government save nearly ₹1.23 crore, making the procurement process more transparent and cost-effective.

Reviewing the action plan for the financial year 2026-27, the government announced plans to introduce digital wireless communication services in 12 districts at a projected cost of ₹47 crore. The initiative is expected to significantly improve coordination among police units and strengthen communication during emergency operations and law-and-order situations.

The CCTV Dashboard Project is a major initiative to modernize and digitize the Uttar Pradesh Police. In accordance with a Supreme Court order, CCTV cameras are being installed in all police stations across the state. This new system will allow senior state officials to monitor multiple police stations from a single control room. This will increase transparency and accountability in police work, strengthening public trust in the police.
