Jal Jeevan Mission: 75% Rural Habitations Now Covered Under Sujal Gaon ID

Date:

Under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0, ‘Sujal Gaon IDs’ have been issued to 12,67,808 (75%) of the country’s 16,96,213 rural habitations by August 10, 2026. The ‘Sujal Gaon ID’ is a unique identification number issued for the identification, monitoring, and verification of rural water supply service areas.

The objective of the ‘Sujal Gaon ID’ is to ensure the effective monitoring, reporting, and sustainability of drinking water services in rural areas. This ID is generated through the national JJM digital platform, and the information is shared with the concerned States and Union Territories via the JJM digital ecosystem.

Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, Sujalam Bharat has been developed for the digital management of Rural Piped Water Supply Schemes(RPWSS). It integrates asset information, GIS mapping, and decision-support systems.

Linked to the PM GatiShakti platform, Sujalam Bharat provides a GIS-based digital framework. Under this initiative, rural water supply schemes are assigned a unique digital identity the ‘Sujalam Bharat ID’ to enable more effective monitoring and management.

Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, the ‘Sujal Gaon ID’ and ‘Sujalam Bharat ID’ provide digital identities to water service areas and rural water supply schemes. Integrated with GIS, they facilitate the monitoring of water supply networks and assets from source to tap. These ensure better monitoring, accountability, and data-driven decision-making for schemes. Additionally, identifying gaps and redundancies fosters transparency and effective operations.
