PM Modi Joins SCO Leaders as World Nomad Games Kick Off in Bishkek

Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the opening ceremony of the 6th ‘World Nomad Games’ in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on Monday. These games are being held from August 31 to September 6, with athletes from across the globe participating in traditional nomadic sports.

Modi visited Kyrgyzstan for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit and met with several leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. He also met and greeted members of the Indian contingent participating in the games.

The ceremony was also attended by several prominent leaders, including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

The event is held every two years and celebrates the sports, culture and traditions of nomadic communities and brings nations together in a vibrant celebration of their shared culture. Athletes from over 100 countries are participating in these games, while the Indian contingent comprises 87 members, including 73 athletes and 10 members showcasing Indian heritage.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held separate meetings with the leaders of Russia, Iran, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit. He is scheduled to address the 26th SCO Summit today.
