India will host the 61st meeting of the ‘International Committee of Legal Metrology’ (CIML) for the first time from October 26 to 28, 2026,. The meeting is expected to bring together more than 100 international delegates and experts.
An international seminar on “Evolutions in Legal Metrology” will be held on October 26. This will be followed by an OIML strategy workshop on October 27, where the organization’s future priorities and emerging challenges in this field will be discussed.
The meeting is being organized by the Department of Consumer Affairs in collaboration with the International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML). It will cover discussions on international measurement standards, digital transformation, certification systems and cooperation among member countries.
The three-day meeting will also cover topics such as the development and revision of international recommendations, technical activities, capacity building and the OIML Certification System (OIML-CS).
Hosting the meeting will provide India with an opportunity to present its regulatory reforms and digital initiatives on an international platform. Greater alignment of measurement standards could also help Indian manufacturers understand international certification requirements and improve access to overseas markets.
The 60th CIML meeting was held in Paris, France, on October 13 and 15, 2025, with representatives from 55 member states, 12 corresponding members along with representatives of five organisations in liaison.
Founded in 1955, the OIML works to harmonise legal metrology practices worldwide by developing international recommendations for measuring instruments used in trade, industry, healthcare, safety and environmental protection.
